The Job Coach: SECU Credit Union Back-to-School Event

This summer KJA joined client and partner The Job Coach for a free Back-to-School Financial Kickoff in Clarksville, Maryland — an afternoon built on a simple idea: students should start the school year with more than supplies. They should start it with a financial foundation.

Banking That Feels Within Reach

Hosted in partnership with SECU Credit Union, the event invited Howard County students to open new checking accounts, enjoy giveaways and great music, and connect with other students in a setting that made banking feel approachable instead of intimidating. SECU's teen and student accounts come with no monthly maintenance fees, no minimum balance requirements, a Visa debit card, and mobile banking, along with cash rewards for qualifying new accounts. For a 13-year-old opening a first account, that is a real head start.

Career Readiness Starts Earlier Than You Think

The Job Coach has been doing this kind of work since 2005. Founded by CEO Akisha S. Jefferson, the organization has built its reputation as an opportunity matchmaker — providing workforce readiness training, resume boot camps, interview coaching, and job placement services, with particular focus on people facing systemic barriers to employment (The Job Coach). Financial literacy is a natural extension of that mission. Career readiness means very little if a young person does not also know how to manage the paycheck that follows.
